Jhikargacha Correspondent: 14 sacks of urea and 1 sack of TSP fertilizer have been seized in Jessore’s Jhikargacha market for illegal sale of fertilizers.

With the help of local people, Jhikargacha police and agricultural officials seized these fertilizers and took responsibility. According to the incident, on September 24 (Saturday) at 1 o’clock in the afternoon, the local people suspected that fertilizer was being sold by load from BCIC’s appointed dealer Mukul Traders located next to the food godown of Jhikargacha Bazar. They detained Nachiman and informed the journalists and administration officials. Journalists and officials came and found that 9 sacks of Mukul Traders and 6 sacks of fertilizer were sold from M/s Nuruzzaman Khan to the same person. However, according to government rules, no dealer can sell fertilizer to anyone except the farmer or sub-dealer. Again Nuruzzaman Khan sold fertilizer to the union people as a municipal dealer which is also prohibited by law. Haroon Or Rashid, manager of Mukul Traders, said that the person came to buy fertilizer as a farmer. He replied to a farmer whether he checked the requirement of 9 sacks of fertilizer and sold them, he said, it was a mistake. It was not possible to go to Nuruzzaman Khan’s shop as it was locked.

Agriculture extension officer Abdullah Al Mamun, who was present at the scene, said that no dealer can sell fertilizer like this. Only farmers and sub dealers are allowed to sell fertilizers. He further said that under the guidance of Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mr. Mahbubul Haque and Jhikargacha Thana Incharge Mr. Suman Bhakta, the fertilizer was seized and sealed under the supervision of SI Shahin. It will be decided tomorrow. Meanwhile, when farmers across the country are clamoring for fertilisers, people are outraged by the misdeeds of the dealers. They demanded exemplary punishment including cancellation of dealerships of these dishonest dealers. On investigation, it is known that dishonest dealers have been deceiving the farmers by selling fertilizers in this way for a long time and are profiting themselves.
